The Certified Commercial Truck Inspector is responsible for ensuring our shop remains compliant with all state and federal safety standards. This position plays a key role in maintaining vehicle safety, operational readiness, and regulatory compliance for our company’s commercial vehicles.

Responsibilities:

• Perform official Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) commercial vehicle inspections in accordance with state certification and inspection procedures.
• Conduct thorough examinations of braking systems, steering components, suspension, tires, lighting, and other required safety systems.
• Complete inspection reports accurately and maintain proper documentation as required by DPS and company policy.
• Identify necessary repairs or maintenance and communicate findings to fleet maintenance or management teams.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal (FMCSA) and state (TxDMV) regulations.
• Maintain inspection tools, equipment, and certification in good standing.
• Support continuous improvement and safety initiatives across the fleet operations team.
• Keeps shop area neat and clean.
• Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
• Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.

Qualifications:

• Current and valid Texas State Certification as a Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspector (issued by Texas DPS) – Required.
• Strong knowledge of state and federal CMV regulations, including DOT inspection standards.
• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in automotive or diesel mechanics preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in vehicle inspection, maintenance, or related field (preferred).
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and must maintain a clean driving record to meet insurability standards; CDL preferred but not required.
