JOB SUMMARY 

Operates a tractor/trailer to transport materials back and forward for specified destinations throughout assigned local area. Key measure of success includes:  

  • High utilization of tractor, trailer, and other company resources.  
  • Strong commitment to no load refusals.  
  • Maintain clear records from citations and accidents. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Communicates in a clear and consistent manner with high integrity. 
  • High utilization of hours of service (HOS) according to DOT regulations by keeping electronic logs (E-log).  
  • Ensures cargo is secure to prevent shifting.  
  • Loads and unloads trucks if needed.  
  • Completes pre-trip inspections and makes accommodations to truck as needed.  
  • Complies and maintains good safety practices with both Border-Tire and DOT safety regulations and procedures.  
  • Communicate with Border-Tire personnel regarding hours of services and other critical information.  
  • Accepts loads, verifies count and conditions of both unloaded and loaded goods/materials when permitted.  
  • Report on overages, shortages, damages, and seal breakages to appropriate personnel.  
  • Immediate performs and follows the appropriate Border-Tire and DOT procedures if involved in an incident or accident.  
  • Complies with fuel efficient driving guidelines.  
  • Properly hooks/unhooks trailers.  
  • Must have a current, valid driver's license for the state in which the employee performs his or her driving duties. 
  • Must maintain a clean driving record, i.e., must remain insurable under our company's liability insurance policy. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Class A commercial driver license (CDL); must meet insurability standards. 
  • Must successfully pass background and drug test pre-employment screening. 
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. 
  • Must be able to utilize both manual and automatic transmission vehicles. 
  • Be reliable and professional. 
  • Excellent customer service skills. 
  • Ability to thrive in a busy, fast-paced retail environment. 
  • Minimum of 12 months' experience. 
  • Must be 21 years age or older.  
  • 40% English comprehension required by DOT.  
  • Must meet all DOT driver qualification regulations. 
  • Must have valid DOT physical. 
  • Must have an acceptable PSP.

  • Must be able to lift merchandise up to 100+ lbs. for deliveries. 
  • Bend or twist their body. 
  • Sit for an extended period. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

  

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Drive an enclosed truck daily. 
  • Work outdoors while loading and unloading goods. Work indoors while driving or filling out paperwork. Indoor temperatures may not be controlled. 
  • Are often exposed to contaminants, such as diesel fuel or exhaust. 
  • Wear protective or safety attire on a weekly basis. Sometimes you are exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures while working outside.
