The Planner/Scheduler is responsible for utilizing tools to determine location of trucks and available customer loads; tailor planning to meet area needs. Understands daily capacity needs/opportunities and pro-actively communicate to appropriate leadership and drivers. Communicates late pickups and/or deliveries, as well as any other load changes, to appropriate department personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Take requests for all trucking types including refrigerated freight, lowboy, heavy haul, dry van, liquid bulk, etc.
  • Maintain a schedule of all needed moves and manage the process of efficiently and effectively completing them, balancing project needs with fiscal responsibility.
  • Communicate scheduled assignments to the drivers, including maps/directions, site contact information, delivery time, etc.
  • Manage the Driver’s work hours, including dispatch from locations, and minimizing overnight stays, to mitigate costs as well as exposure to risk with respect to hours of service.
  • Manage the Driver’s compliance with all FMCSA regulations, with specific emphasis on local driver exemption, and when necessary ELD mandate compliance.
  • Create Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that measure the accuracy, effectiveness, and completeness of required processes and drive root cause corrective action as needed.
  • Obtains Permits as needed, including scheduling escorts when required.
  • Follow company’s policies and safety procedures.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in logistics or related field experience; preferred but not required.
  • Advanced knowledge of FMCSA rules and regulations is a must.
  • Knowledge of trucking operations, specifically geometric and physical properties for transporting them.
  • Knowledge of time/distance geography.
  • Understand and coordinate truck load planning.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous industry experience; preferred.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of current technology and able to learn new technology.
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English fluently.
  • Strategic thinker, strong analytical skills, able to synthesize considerable and complex data.
  • Required prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
